Cebu is known for its unique historical sights, culture, and tradition. But the city has an adventurous side too, with sky walk in Crown Regency, swimming with whale sharks and riding a habal-habal (motorcycle) going to a steep mountain towards majestic waterfalls are among the thrills on offer. This guide will help you plan your action-packed adventure trip to the “Queen City of the South” in the Philippines.

How to get there

By Air:
There are daily flights going to Cebu via the Mactan-Cebu International Airport from Key cities in the country, as well as scheduled flights from Hongkong, Singapore, Narita in Japan and Incheon, South Korea.

By Land:
Cebu is several islands away from Luzon, where Manila is, so the bus had to be transported aboard a ship. There are buses bound for Cebu leave from Dumaguete, Oriental Negros and Bacolod, Negros Occidental every hour.

It is also possible to take your car here via a Roll On-Roll Off (RORO) ferry.

By Sea:
The Cebu City Port service the inter-island sea vessels on the Cebu-Manila-Cebu route from the different major cities in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Must-See Places
Sky Walk Extreme and Edge Coaster in Crown Regency

Sky Walk Extreme in Crown Regency, Cebu City

It’s time to level up your adventure into a nerve racking feeling as if you are floating on cloud nine once you experience the Sky Walk Extreme. It is widely known to be the 4th in the world and first in the Philippines.

The Sky Walk Extreme will give you that natural high by walking around translucent glass flooring at the 37th floor on the edge of the Crown Regency Hotel and Towers with an overhead safety harness at the main outer rim of the building, 126.55 meters high above the street.

High above at the 38th floor of the tower you can also experience the Edge Coaster which goes around the edge of the building while riders are locked onto a rail seat.

Swimming with Whale sharks

Whale shark watching in Oslob, Cebu

One of the most surprising adventures to be found in Oslob, Cebu is swimming with the world’s biggest fish the “Gentle Giants Butandings” or “Tuki” in bisaya (whale sharks).

Whale shark watching in the Philippines is one of the bucket list of most tourist and me as well.  Oslob’s Whale shark watching is located at a small barangay named Tan-awan, a 10 kilometre drive away from the town center of Oslob. From Cebu South Bus Terminal to Oslob is a 4-5 hour bus ride which cost Php 157.00 (USD 3.37) one way. We got to MB’s Sunrise View Resort just along the highway.

Butanding feeding schedule is 6:00-12:30 am, so make sure to arrive in the morning or be there in the evening for you to be able to watch or swim with the Butandings.

You may also pay Php 500.00 (USD 10) to have your photos/videos taken by the fishermen with the Resort own devices or if you have your own underwater camera just additional Php 100.00 (USD 2).
Before you will be able to interact with the whale sharks you will be guided in the briefing area for Whale Shark Interaction Guidelines:

  • ·         Do not touch the shark. It could react violently or swim away, leading to a shorter interaction.
  • ·        Keep a minimum distance of 4 meters from the shark. (Approximately one shark body length).
  • ·         No more than 6 tourists per shark.
  • ·         Do not throw trash in the water. The sharks may accidentally swallow it.
  • ·         No flash photography. Whale sharks are very sensitive to light.
  • ·         No feeding from tourist boats.

In addition, lotion or sunblock is not allowed as it can poison the butandings. Onto the area of the whale shark we were told by the boatman to dive in without a life vest and since I’m not really a swimmer I was so scared because the water is about 20-30 feet deep. But he told as that there is nothing to be scared of because you will float in the water. At that time, I was so scared but facing my fear on deep water I’d take the risk and plunge onto the water. And the boatman was right you really will float and the only problem is you need to go deep for you to take a good picture with the whale sharks that are about a few inches away from you. I can’t stop clinging on the boat as if it was my last day on earth and I was also grasping for breath.

Other Activity in Oslob
You can also visit the Oslob Heritage Park which is adjacent to one of the oldest Spanish colonial era church in Cebu, the stonewalled Our lady of Immaculate Concepcion Parish. The park will give you a picturesque view of the ocean waters as well as its nearby island. The park is the location of the hundred years old watchtower ruins called Cuartel and Baluarte – serves as prison building during Spanish time, and walls surrounding by – as old as the church.

Ride a habal-habal towards Tumalog Falls

Tumalog Falls in Oslob, Cebu

Aside from the famous whale shark watching you can also take a side trip by riding a habal-habal going to a steep mountain towards Tumalog Falls.
Tumalog Falls is an example of a horsetail waterfall in which the descending water remains in contact with the rock most of the time.
