For some people, travel is only for ‘rich’ people. Well, here’s a good news to you! You don’t need to be rich to travel.  All you have to do is learn simple things to save money on vacations.

How to work out your budget

First thing foremost is that you have to decide where you want to go. In my case I have this bucket list of where I want to go this year.

Second, decide the length of your trip so that if you’re working you can plot your vacation already so that you can inform your employer whether your good for that date or not. And also, to save money for that trip. Because the longer your vacation the bigger expenses you need to consider.

Third, research your costs. As a budget traveler, I really look for the lowest price for the accommodation, food and transportation.

Accommodation
Whenever I go to travel I usually choose to stay in transient house or budget hotel rather than staying in a 3-star hotel. Why? It is because I’d rather spend my money on experiences that are important to me.

Transient House – Staying in a transient house are much cheaper. Price ranges to Php 300-450 per   night.

Budget Hotel –Since you’re not going to spend much time in your room better to find cheap but clean budget hotel that price ranges to Php700-1000 per night.

Fourth, start saving money. Do a budget of your expenses and cut down those that are not necessarily.

Fifth, check for deals. Like discounted airfare and hotel for you to save a lot of money.

Sixth, book your accommodation earlier especially during peak season or holidays. Because during those days Hotels or Transient House usually make their price high.

Seventh, avoid taxis and instead use public transportation. We tend to take taxis since it’s the laziest way to get from point A to B but consider riding a subway or buses because its sometimes easier and it is much cheaper.

Eighth, walk around. I promise you that walking around will lead you to undiscovered places and will give you a great chance to see the city and take pictures.

Ninth, go off season. When I book a travel I usually choose days which is off season because it’s cheaper and less crowded.

Tenth, Do-It-Yourself travel. I’m the kind of person that is totally allergic with Travel Agency. Aside from they are expensive and require a number of participants, you cannot enjoy a certain place or discover new places since your itinerary is only bound for that tour package.

And last plan your activities. If you’re heading out to a place you should at least plan where to go, what activities to try, best food tripping and etc. Especially if you only have limited time you have to maximize it.
